Housing

The Maidstone Green Party are calling for action over the rapid housing growth across the County which is now spreading to Maidstone. The developments in Ashford and the Thames Gateway will cause untold damage to the environment, increasing pollution and causing water and power shortages across Kent and theproposed development of green field sites around Maidstone will make these problems worse.

We are calling for all the political parties to unite behind them in the call to find real alternatives to the unsustainable growth that Kent is undergoing. We cannot allow the destruction of our green field sites and the devastation that unsustainable development brings when thousands properties lie unoccupied in the south east.

Regeneration should be about revitalizing existing communities rather than building new ones. Other areas in the country are missing out on opportunities because of the government’s focus on the south east.

The real issue that needs addressing is the provision of affordable housing for first time buyers. Maidstone Greens want to see the proportion of affordable housing in new development dramatically increased. We have to invest in our children's future.
