Open letter to Helen Grant MP – sent 08:00 7th July 2022

Dear Helen

There is a national crisis of confidence in government, a crisis that is destroying trust between the electorate and those elected, a crisis that has made the UK an international laughing stock, a crisis that has been manufactured by the UK Government of which you are part but particularly by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

While many of your colleagues have made their positions clear on the huge variety of acts that have destroyed this trust, from the fast tracking of fake PPE contracts by ministers’ friends worth billions, to partygate and now to the combination of lies and the casual acceptance of sexual assault as a norm in Westminster, you have both remained silent and uncritical, at least publicly.

Your constituents want to know where you stand. We want to know whether you are happy with the bullying, lies, law breaking and sexual depravity that is at the heart of your government. Remaining silent in the face of these despicable acts is to be complicit in them.

I truly hope that you are working behind the scenes for a better government, one that resurrects the Nolan Principles, one that puts honesty at its heart, but at this time of crisis it is time for you to speak to the people of Maidstone and to state clearly your position.

Yours sincerely

Stuart
