Green Campaigner Stephen Thompson has hit out at Maidstone Borough Council’s lack of engagement with local bus operators that came to light following his questions at the Council meeting on 22nd February.
Stephen Thompson (Green Party campaigner for Detling and Thurnham): “Good quality, local and cheap bus services are the backbone of public transport so it was disappointing to hear that the Council is not formally meeting with local operators.
“Other district and borough councils have set up forums with their bus operators and it clearly ensures that both can work together to resolve issues and improve services.
“Our roads in this Borough are clogged with cars and our bus services are collapsing. Meanwhile the Conservatives are sitting on their hands watching the chaos rather than taking proactive action.”
Notes:
Stephen’s question to the Lead Member for Planning and Infrastructure: “Does Maidstone Borough Council convene a formal forum with local bus operators to ensure an ongoing constructive dialogue on these vital services?”
The Detling Shopper bus service has has a slight reprieve from closure and the service is being provided by Compaid for a short time. The long term provision remains uncertain
