Local Greens have welcomed comments from leaders at Maidstone Borough Council have agreed to revise their local transport strategy and commence liaison meetings with local bus companies. The announcements were made at the Executive Committee on 28th July and follow repeated calls by Greens.
Green Councillor, Stuart Jeffery, said, “I have been calling for a new integrated transport strategy and liaison meetings with bus companies since I was elected and I am pleased to see that those calls have now been heard. There is at lest a glimmer of hope.
“We need a new approach to travel around the Borough, one that is based on sustainability and not one that just tries to squeeze more cars on our already congested roads.
“We need to have good alternatives in place, such as useable and affordable public transport and safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists. Without these people will continue to need their cars.”
