Green Party campaigners have welcomed the decision by KCC to keep Tovil Tip open. Local Green Claire Kehily had amassed over 4000 signatures on her petition on the back of public anger at the initial move by KCC to close it.
Local Green campaigner Claire Kehily said: “There has been a huge amount of pressure on KCC to reverse its decision to close Tovil Tip, including my own petition which was signed by over 4000 people, so I am pleased that they have now decided to keep it open.
“The impact on fly tipping to the south of Maidstone would have been huge and the additional traffic to Allington would have added to congestion and frustration.
“There is, of course, too much waste. We need a circular economy, reusing what we have rather than throwing it away. I hope that KCC can start to work on this to help reduce all of our bills.”
