The Green Party is celebrating another set of record results with more Green councillors on more councils across the country than ever before, extending the party’s record gains two years ago. So far, the Greens have already won a total of 155 seats, including 99 new seats, and gained representation on 18 new councils for the first time in this year’s local elections.
Across Kent we increased our representation on Kent County Council by winning four seats in Ashford, Swale and Tonbridge. We would like to offer our congratulations to Steve Campkin, Mark Hood, Paul Stepto and Rich Lehmann on their success. We also secured second place in Maidstone Rural East.
In the Maidstone Borough Council elections Donna Greenan missed out on winning Bridge Ward by just 11% (received 31% of the vote) and Stuart Jeffery missed out on winning North Downs Ward by just 65 votes, despite getting 43% of the vote. We also received excellent votes in Marden and Yalding (second with 18%), Fant (22%) and Coxheath and Hunton (17%).
Stuart Jeffery: “The tide has turned. This was a great day for Greens here and across the country. We are out on doorsteps listening to local people, working hard for them all year round and now we are representing them in more places than ever before. Local people really appreciate our messages on tackling air pollution, waste, housing and dangerous roads along with our vision of a Green future.”
