Maidstone Green Party campaigner, Stuart Jeffery is to present a petition, signed by almost every household in the road, to the Maidstone Joint Transportation Board this afternoon calling for a 20mph speed limit on Bower Mount Road and its surrounding streets.
Stuart Jeffery said, “This is a surprisingly busy and fast road connecting London Road and Tonbridge Road, yet it is residential and surrounded by schools. Residents are overwhelmingly in support of it having a 20mph speed limit.
“The evidence shows that these limits reduce accidents and pollution making the road a better place to live and to walk along. We need to be encouraging walking and cycling and we can’t do that while vehicles are travelling too fast.
“I will be working with the local county councillors to get this speed limit agreed.”
