Petition to save our bus services submitted

At the closure of Kent County Council’s consultation on which essential bus services should be axed, Maidstone Greens have sent in a 700 strong petition calling for a fundamental rethink.

Stuart Jeffery of Maidstone Greens: “Just a few weeks ago the UN stated that it was ‘now or never’ to act on climate change yet KCC are actively cutting services that will result in more cars on our roads and more CO2 in our air.

“Coupled with their anti-environmental cuts, they are hurting people who rely on these services and forcing people into cars at a time when petrol prices are through the roof.

“Our roads in Maidstone are not coping with the current levels of traffic. We need more buses and fewer cars so we are calling on KCC to reverse its plans for these cuts to essential services.”

Note:
The petition to KCC said: “With the dire state of Maidstone’s already congested roads, rising fuel prices and the requirements for strong action on climate change, bus services need to be invested in, not cut. We therefore call on you to reverse your plans for cuts to these essential bus services and to invest in additional services that are urgently required.”
