Maidstone Greens have broken through onto Maidstone Borough Council with the election of Stuart Jeffery in Bridge Ward with just over 50% of the vote.
Green Cllr Stuart Jeffery said: “It is a historic day. Maidstone Borough Council has its first ever Green councillor. I am honoured and thrilled to have been elected by the wonderful people in Bridge Ward.
“The Council has desperately needed a Green voice for many years and now it has one. I will stand up for both local people and the environment, for safer streets and to protect our much needed farm and woodland.
“Across the country we have done brilliantly well too, with massive gains nationally. The Greens that are so sorely needed are now getting elected.”
