Greens across Maidstone have reacted angrily against the potential closures of children centres with Marden being particularly badly affected. The local Green councillor, Mick Summersgill, has started a petition and is calling on KCC to scrap the closure plans.
Cllr Mick Summersgill, Green Campaigner for Marden and Yalding Ward: “Marden cannot afford to lose this valuable resource for young families. We have to tell the Conservatives on KCC that this children’s centre must stay open.
“The nearest alternatives are miles away and will cost young families a fortune in fares. They simply won’t get the help they need.
“KCC need to look elsewhere for its cuts rather than targeting those in most need.”
